I took up an opportunity to line up my 10mm Skeleton and Empire figures on a barebones table in a stylised set up, partly to see what I had, and for some photo's.
The figures are mainly on 40mm x 20mm bases, and I play either Warmaster or Hordes of the Things
( HOTT ) rulesets. I prefer HOTT for their greater troop variety and ease of play, whilst allowing the flavour of it all to come out. As a basic HOTT command is 24 Army Points, and a basic skeleton foot unit is a
1 AP 'Horde" unit, it allows plenty of Hordes ie skeletons, in an army. More regular foot units are usually 2 AP's each, with special type units 3-4 points each. Oh, and you can have multiple commands of 24 A.P's' per side. ( Lets see now, 3 x 24 AP's = 72 Horde units @ 10 figures per base - 720 10mm skelton foot! ) Cool.
The figures are finished in Exterior grade PVA glue rather than varnished. It gives a semi gloss finish, and also protects the weaker bits like spears etc a bit more. I ' blob ' the glue on, rather than paint it on. At first it's a white looking mess, but it dries clear and shrinks as it does so. Metallics can" run" if you paint it on, so blobbing is the way to go - thicker than paint but not too thick..
The manufacturers are GW Warmaster ( now OOP ), Kallistra skeletons, Pengraken Skeletons, Warmonger Miniatures Landsknechte pikemen and swordsmen. I intend to add some Irregular Miniature skeletons in the future. After all, too many skellies aren't enough.
